The History and Role of the Book of Common Worship
Patrick Curles, Covenant Presbyterian Church, Nashville, TN
Historically Presbyterianism has had both a directory for worship and a service book, normally called a book of common worship. However, though both pieces have a long history in Presbyterianism there is still often widespread confusion between the two and the role of each. This seminar traces the history and use of prayer books in the Presbyterian tradition up to the 1946 Book of Common Worship in the United States.
