Using Practices of Lament in Contexts of Injustice
Otis W. Pickett, Malcolm Foley, Ansley Quiros, and Patrick Connelly, Clemson University/Clemson Presbyterian Church
This seminar includes former pastors, current pastors, Ruling Elders, seminary administrators and professors who are in the PCA. Each panel member has published or presented significantly on Lament and how practices and pedagogical uses of Lament can “Knit Together” the body of Christ. Further, each panelist has contributed a chapter to a book entitled “Lament and Justice in African American History” through Lexington Press, which was published in 2023. Each has studied the history of Lament in the church and/or used practices of Lament in their teaching and preaching. The participants will hear about each panelist’s research and work in using practices of Lament in ecclesiastical spaces, classroom spaces and how these practices helped forge stronger communities while also giving participants a lens through which to process suffering.
