When the Church is Silent on Abortion, Congregants Suffer

Church leaders may feel apprehensive about addressing the topic of abortion with their congregations due to its potential political connotations, their uncertainty regarding the medical aspects involved, and their concern for causing emotional distress. Maintaining silence on this issue does not provide clarity or alleviate suffering. Congregants often interpret silence as tacit approval of their own circumstances or are silenced by the guilt and shame that accompanies abortion. This session equips church leaders to engage in informed discussions about abortion, communicate grace to individuals who have chosen abortion, and provide resources for those seeking help.
