Who’s Missing?: Making Room On Your Pews for People Impacted By Disability

Ashley Belknap, Engaging Disability With The Gospel

Pastors and elders are called to shepherd the entire flock that God has entrusted to them—not only those who are visibly engaged but also those who are present but unseen or who are not thriving in our churches. This seminar will challenge and equip you to extend discipleship and care to all members of the body, including children, teens, and adults impacted by disability. Through a biblical lens, we will explore how Christ’s call to love, shepherd, and build community includes those who may not easily fit into traditional ministry structures. We will address practical ways to disciple, enfold, and love every member of your congregation—not only those with the ability to serve and contribute independently but also those who may require extra support to grow in their faith.

This seminar will stretch your understanding of the scope of disability across your congregation. You will learn more about the unique needs of those with visible and invisible disabilities, learning disabilities, mental health challenges, chronic illness, dementia, and senior adults. Come ready to lift your eyes afresh and see the fullness of your congregation, learning how to lead with gospel-driven compassion so that all may flourish in Christ’s church.
